How do I reset my router?

  • Unplug your router

I’m connected to Wi-Fi but the internet doesn’t work?

This is a common misunderstanding, but being connected to your router’s Wi-Fi does not ensure internet access.

Your router’s Wi-Fi replaces the need for cables to connect to your router with a wireless connection. But access to the internet is provid- ed through your internet service provider.

If you’re connected to Wi-Fi but you don’t have internet access:

  • Try resetting your router (instructions above)
  • Contact your ISP (internet service provider)

    • There may be a service outage in your area
    • Your ISP provided modem may be malfunctioning

What’s the difference between static and dynamic IP?

The job of a router is to hand out IP addresses. For routing to work properly each device on your local network needs a unique IP.

  • Static IP addresses — Each device on your network is configured with a specific IP address.

    • This requires the setup of your devices and configuration of your router to assign each device a static IP.
    • If done incorrectly, the router and your devices will not communicate
  • Dynamic IP addresses — Each device on your network is given a random IP address assigned by the router.

    • If the device is disconnected, the router may give it a different IP address
    • You can configure your router to reserve IP addresses for a device to keep it from changing
  • NOTE: If your device is configured for a static IP address it will not work with a router set up for dynamic IP configuration. Likewise, if your router is set up for static IP addresses it will not work with devices set up to receive an IP dynamically.
  • For details about how to properly configure your router and devices for static or dynamic IP addresses consult the manufacturer or contact Rezku Support.
